What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a complementary therapy that balances all body systems following illness, stress or injury. It is an ancient healing art based on the principle that the body will, given the opportunity, heal itself and bring about a state of natural balance in order to function to it's full capacity. Every part of the body is reflected in the hands and feet and a trained reflexologist can work on the feet to help balance the body.

The main effects reflexology has on the body are:

  • Reduces stress and tension and relaxes the whole person

  • Revitalises body energy

  • Improves physical conditions or injuries

  • Good for insomnia

  • Helps alleviate pain

  • Improves circulation

  • Cleanses the body of toxins and impurities

A reflexologist uses hands only to apply gentle pressure to the feet. Drugs or medication of any kind are never used, and as reflexology is a complementary therapy, a reflexologist will never interfere with medication prescribed by the G.P.

Reflexology is a preventative health care that is becoming more important as we develop and awareness of the health threatening dangers in the world around us. For example, chemical additives in our food, water pollution, radioactivity and poor air quality (to name but a few). Our immune system is put under tremendous strain, therefore we should find time to relax and unwind as the immune system relies on other bodily processes to maintain defences. To ward off illness the body needs to be well balanced.
